Island Fisheries Convention

Delegations from the European Small Islands Federation, The Gaia Foundation and The International Collective in Support of Fishworkers will visit the island at the weekend to meet with local fishermen and the wider community. The aim of the convention is to discuss the decline of island fisheries and the consequent impact on all aspects of island life. The visitors will be meeting groups on the island to discuss potential ways to reverse this decline and ensure that fishing, which is a vital pillar of any island community, is sustained into the future. As part of the visit there will be a public meeting in the Ionad Fiontraíochta on Saturday at 3.30pm and we would encourage anyone who is on the island to come along to hear what is being said and show support.
