Árainn Mhór 5K Fun Run/Walk, Sat. 30 August

Árainn Mhór is hosting the first annual 5 kilometer fun-run/walk on Saturday the 30th August 2008. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities. Come along and enjoy the islands famous hospitality, beautiful scenery and the great outdoors.

Entry is €20 for adults and €10 for children. All proceeds from the event will go towards the island Community Centre refurbishment fund, see http://www.arainnmhor.com/people/ionadpobail/ for details.

TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ROADS


ÁRAINN MHÓR

NOTICE is hereby given that Donegal County Council intends to make an order to have the following road closed to public traffic on the dates and times specified to facilitate events associated with the Árainn Mhór 5k Fundraising Run.

Saturday 30th August 2008, 12.45pm to 4.30pm
L-3133-1, Fallagowan Road, L-3143-1, Aphort Road, L-3143-2, Chapel Road, L-3153-1, Illion Road, L-9099-1, Upper Illion Road, L9023-1, Ballintra Road and back to Leabgarrow on L-3143-1 Aphort Road

Diversions will be signposted

Persons wishing to object to the closures should submit objections in writing to the Roads Section, Donegal County Council, County House, Lifford before 4.30pm on 12th August 2008.

Volunteers Wanted, Árainn Mhór 5K

We are seeking volunteers to help with the running of the 5K fun run on the island on Saturday 30 August. Stewards, first-aiders and people to help with manning water stations are needed on the day. If you are able to help out in any way, big or small please contact the Ionad Pobail on 07495 20024.

Comharchumann Forbartha & Fostaíochta Árainn Mhór would like to thank all those who took part in the 5k sponsored walk/run on Saturday. The winner of the race was Kevin McGhee who finished in 22 minutes 58 seconds, 2nd place was Niall Clancy, under 16's was won by Gary McGhee, u16 2nd place was Micheal McHugh. The winner of the ladies was Angela (Lanty) McCauley, in 2nd place was Roseann Byrne. A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped out on the day & to the musicians that played for us after the race. A special thank you to all our sponsors without your help we couldn't run this event. The amount raised after expenses was €773.24. Photos of the event can be seen in the Gallery.
