Welcome to the Buy-a-Brick site, it was inspired by Alex Tew and his Million Dollar Homepage ( http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/ ) and we have varied the idea a wee bit to help raise funds for the community centre refurbishment fund. Basically the idea is to sell all of the bricks on the page at a cost of €4 each, there are 10,000 bricks in total, with the money going to the fund and the donor getting to post a message on their bricks for all the world to see. The code used to manage the process is called GPix which is an open source script based on PHP and a MYSQL database and the payments on the site are handled securely through Paypal ( http://www.paypal.ie/ ). We are hoping that all you out there with a connection to the island will place an advert or just say hello while at the same time helping the community at home. We plan to have a building for the island we can all be proud of, please do your bit to support us. Séamus, 5 Nollaig 2007
