Na Tithe
The Houses
Is cuid lárnach de chúrsa Gaeltachta ar bith iad na mná tithe. Tá tithe den chéad scoth againn in Árainn Mhór. Is í an Ghaeilge teanga labhartha na dtithe seo agus tugann sé seans do na scoláirí an Ghaeilge atá foghlamtha acu sna ranganna a chleachtadh le bean an tí agus le muintir an tí. Déanann cigirí ón Roinn Ealaíon, Oidhreachta, Gaeltachta agus Oileán scrúdú rialta ar na tithe seo le déanamh cinnte go bhfuil riachtanais uilig an scoláire ann. Leanann Bean an Tí biachlár atá socraithe idir í féin agus Udarás an Choláiste. Ba cheart do dhaoine le riachtanais speisialta é sin a chur in iúl don Choláiste roimh ré. Bíonn a leaba féin ag gach scoláire agus is gnách go mbíonn thart ar 4 in aon seomra amháin. Fánann cinnirí i gcuid mhór de na tithe. Seo daoine óga (c.19-23) a bhfuil caighdeán maith Gaeilge bainte amach acu. Is daoine iad seo atá roghnaithe de bharr an chumais atá iontu scoláirí a spreagadh chun Gaeilge a labhairt. Tá siad ann fosta chun cuidiú le daoine óga socrú isteach nó iad siúd a bhfuil fadhbanna acu. Tá an chuid is mó de na tithe i ngiorracht siúil ó ionaid an Choláiste. Cuirtear bus/ tacsaí ar fáil in uair na drochaimsire do na tithe atá níos faide ar shiúl ó ionaid an Choláiste.

A central part to any visit to the Gaeltacht is the Bean an Tí. We have houses of the highest standard in Árainn Mhór. Irish is the spoken language of these houses and this affords the student ample opportunity to practice the Irish he/she may have learnt during the morning classes. Inspectors from the department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands examine these houses on a regular basis to ensure that high standards are being met. The Bean an Tí follows a menu, which has previously been agreed with the College authorities. Any special requirements should be made known to the college beforehand. Each student will have his / her own bed and it is usual for about 4 students to share a room. “Cinnirí” stay in most of the houses with the students. These are young adults (c. 19-23) of a high moral character who have achieved a high degree of fluency in the language. These young men and women are chosen for their ability to encourage and motivate students and to assist those students who have difficulty in settling in or who have other problems. Most houses are within easy walking distance of the College centres. Buses/Taxis are provided in bad weather to take student home to houses which are further away.
