Banking facilities are now available at Árainn Mhór Post Office in association with Allied Irish Bank (AIB). AIB customers will now be able to deposit and withdraw cash from the post office up to a daily limit of €600. There are no facilities for the lodgment of cheques at the moment. Customers of other banks will not be able to avail of this service but it is hoped that this will change in the future. The Development Co-Op have been involved in trying to secure an island automated teller machine (ATM) for the past year but without success. The new service should benefit islanders in particular who have had to travel to the mainland for cash and banking services.
