The Fishermen
The fishermen
of Arranmore are asking for your support in a protest of the election
on Tuesday 14 May. We are asking that you do not vote on the grounds
that new rules which are planned will mean it will cost between
€10,000 and €30,000 for a fisherman to register
his boat to go fishing. On top of this, new salmon quotas will mean
fishermen can catch only 165 salmon for the season. This could mean
an end to fishing on the island and make it very difficult for future
generations to stay on Arranmore. Please show your support for the
fishermen by not voting on the day.
