Comharchumann
Forbartha & Fostaíochta in association with Donegal
County Library launched the Taobh Tíre library service
for the island on Wednesday the 14th July. The day
was a great success with a large turnout of islanders who showed
up to support the new service.
Islanders can
now join the Donegal County
Library and order books and other library items online through
the library website. The items are delivered to the community
centre on the island for collection. When finished the books/tapes/videos
etc can be returned to the community centre. Members can borrow
up to 12 items for up to 6 weeks. The service has been in operation
for the past number of months and has proved to be a big hit with
islanders. Application forms can be found at the community
centre, the post office and at Taisce Árainn's premises in
Cloughcor.

The
new library service is widely welcomed on the island. |
The
project is an excellent example of the use of new technology to provide
services
to rural areas which might not otherwise be possible or practical. These
services are sometimes taken for granted on the mainland but do make
a difference to the quality of life in rural areas, and especially
on Árainn Mhór where such services are few and far
between. Comharchumann
Forbartha & Fostaíochta
plan on making full use of this technology to provide similar useful
services in future..
