Youth Club, Volunteer Training
Following three public meetings held last month, the group
of Islanders who attended agreed to a Youth Club being set
up on the Island in the existing community centre. With the
help of Donegal Youth Service (DYS) and the community this
hopefully can be achieved.
The cost of becoming members of this affiliated organisation
is 435 euros per year for the club, this covers insurance
for all members and leaders, support, mentoring, guidance
and advice of 2 outreach workers to assist with club concerns,
eg. Help with programme planning, indoor games, in-house
training and group work activities.
In order for this to succeed, volunteers/leaders are needed,
it may be only 11⁄2 hours per week or even less of
your time, if there is sufficient numbers. Volunteers/leaders
will be given training and advice. The age range of young
people eligible to affiliate to DYS is from 5 yrs – 25
yrs old, inclusive. Adult Leaders must be over 18 yrs.
Young Leaders must be at least 16 yrs old and have completed
the relevant youth work training and remain under adult supervision
during activities and outside visits.
An outreach worker, Charlene Logue from DYS is coming to
the Island Friday 21st (7 – 9.30
pm) and Saturday
22nd (10 – 3.30pm) November to give basic training to volunteer
leaders in the community centre. If you want to become a
leader or get involved please give your name to Maureen
McCafferty, Tel 07495 20046 as soon as possible so arrangements can be
made for next week.
Many Thanks |
