Match reports 2006
Arranmore Utd 1 – 1 Bonagee Utd
Árainn played their first game in five weeks against
one of their nearest rivals and dropped their first point of
the season at home. The long lay certainly showed in the first
half as the lads were never in it. The visitors were sharper
and quicker to every ball as the home side struggled to find
any rhythm. Jerry fielded a strong side with only Tiernan Bonner
missing. This meant a reshuffle at the back. Terry McGowan had
been moved back to centre half. Noel also made a comeback getting
a weekend away from his navy duties. Bonagee had the early chances
but didn’t really trouble Paddy because of good defending
from Turkey, Terry and Danny. Francie Brady had a great chance
on 25 minutes when he went clean through, he tried to lob the
keeper but put it wide. Bonagee took a deserved lead on 35minutes
following a mix up, their centre forward had a easy tap in. Terence
Shiels should have levelled on the stroke of half time but was
denied by a great goal-line clearance. Whatever was said at half
time had the desired effect because the boys came out firing
on all cylinders. Noel, Edward and Steven Davenport got on top
in the middle of the park and Carlos and Sweets began to work
the full backs. On 55 minutes Árainn equalised. Carlos
made a brilliant tackle and fed Brady. He had a great shot which
the keeper parried but Edward followed up and hit a cracker home
from 18yards. Arran really had their tails up now. Noel hit the
bar from a corner. Terence had two great chances late on to seal
the win but today was not to be as the Arranmore Talisman failed
to hit the target. Jerry was happy with the 2nd half performance
but was a little disappointed only to secure one point. On the
balance of play a draw was a fair result. Árainn remain
top by two points so all in all a good days work. It was also
great to see Sweets make his first start since his leg-break.
Jerry also gave Damien McClafferty his debut and promised at
least one more signing before the transfer window. Best for Árainn
were Danny, Turkey and Terry.

Copany Rovers 2 -
5 Arranmore United
Árain stay top of the table after a fine
win away from home at Copany Rovers. The lads got off to the
worst possible start when Steven Early scored a spectacular own
goal. Clearly missing Noel and Sweets from last week it took
the lads a long time to settle, though eventually Ed, Terry and
Carlos took control of the midfield and they started to create
chances. Ted and Francis both fired wide when it looked easier
to score. Paddy Bonner then pulled off a brilliant save to keep
us in the game. This proved to be a turning point as Francis
equalised on 40 mins when he nodded home a Terence Shiels corner.
It remained level until half time. Shortly after the break the
boys fell behind again when Copany scored following a corner.
The Árainn boys however upped their play and produced
a brilliant spell of football that saw them score 4 goals in
20 mins. Danny strolled forward and from 30 yards fired home
a cracker. Terence and Ed then combined to set up Terry who fired
into the bottom corner from 18 yards on the hour mark. At this
stage the boys were simply superb and Brady got his 2nd when
he also scored a cracker after Terence knocked the ball onto
him. Steve Davenport got the fifth when he slid the ball home
after a great wing play from Carlos. The lads continued to dominate
and played some brilliant football but couldn’t add to
the scoreline. This was the 6th consecutive win for the lads
and they really seem to be growing in confidence. It is to their
credit that despite losing so many of the years team they appear
capable of challenges for the league title. A great 2nd half
performance by all the team but over the 90 minutes Terry McGowan,
Carlos Rodgers and the inspirational captain Edward were star
performers.

Arranmore United
2 - 0 Orchard United
Árainn kept up their good start
to the season with good home win over Orchard Utd, Arranmore
were again missing several regulars in fact it was noted that
up to eight of last years panel were missing for this weeks game
so all in all Jerry must be pleased how the team are playing. Árainn
started very slow and it took until the 20 th min to create their
first chance when Brady shot wide from a narrow angle, Ted Shiels
should have done better when clean through he elected to pass
to Brady instead of having a shot. Árainn took the lead
on the half hour mark when Brady tapped home from two yards following
good wing play from Steven Davenport, Árainn came under
more pressure playing against the breeze in the second-half but
the defense held firm with Tiernan Bonner [who was making his
debut] Turkey and the outstanding Danny Wan Dan clearing all
that Orchard could throw at them. The lads created and
missed 3 good chances before Ted got the goal his overall play
deserved with ten minutes left, finishing neatly after Edward
had a great shot parried by the keeper. Orchard to their credit
kept plugging away but could find no way past Paddy in the Árainn
goals. The
team welcome back Noel and Sweets next week for the game v Cranford
so here's hoping the good start continues. Team, Paddy, Turkey,
Wan Dan, Tiernan Bonner, Terry, Ed, Carlos. Dav, Ted, Brady,
Goals Brady, 29, Ted 82.
Arranmore
Utd. 3 - 2 Dunlewey Celtic
Arranmore continued their good starts
to the League by beating Dunlewey 3-2 at Rannagh Park on Sunday.
The team has been considerably weakened this year with the loss
of Peadar and Kevin, Noel and Edward also only play the occasional
week as both have commitments away from the country. However
Jerry has made some shrewd signings namely Terence Shiels, Stephen
Davenport and Carlos Rodgers all from Letterkenny. However the
lads made hard work of beating Dunlewey. The visitors took a
deserved lead on the 20th minute when Paul Cannon chipped Paddy
from 18 yards. The lads equalised on the 27th minute when Terence
Shiels scored a brilliant solo goal beating 3 defenders and rifled
a beauty into the bottom corner. Stephen Davenport then had a
good half volley well saved when he probably should have scored.
Dunlewey looked very dangerous on the break and only some last
ditch defending kept them at bay. Whatever was said at half-time
certainly worked as the boys took the lead on the 48th minute
when Stephen Davenport powered home a Ted Shiels corner kick,
in fairness to Dunlewey they came back into it and fully deserved
their equaliser from the penalty spot after Paddy was harshly
judged for a foul. At this stage of the game the point could
have gone either way however with 7 minutes to go the Arranmore
lads clinched the win when Francis finished brilliantly after
great work from Edward and Ted. Árainn
survived a few dodgy moments before the end but hung on for the
win. Best for Árainn were Edward McGowan and Danny Rodgers.
