The Island Council is to launch a new initiative called #ComingHome.

We hope to encourage more families to return to Arranmore and make the island their home once again. With assistance from all the island groups, businesses and organisations, the island council aims to provide information which might aid anyone wishing to make the move to Arranmore.

Arranmore island is a vibrant and dynamic community and one which we feel can and should grow. In a rapidly changing world it is something of a strength in the island’s favour that some things don’t change, such as its strength of community spirit shown through the schools and fundraising events and a sense of support and togetherness shown in organisations such as the football club and local pipe band.

The continued sense of respect for our heritage and traditional ways is shown on the island in issues such as the efforts our local fishermen continue to engage in to protect their traditional fishing ways and pride islanders take in the Irish Language. We are also moving with the times in aiming to provide highspeed broadband, which the island council has now secured funding for, and seeing our children engage in activities such as the local CoderDojo.

A page at www.arainnmhor.com/coming-home will include information on our three schools, the nursery, further expanding this as time goes on include information on other services which are available on the island including health, activities and events.

Currently working with the local financial institutions, we also will be providing information on the services they have available which might be of benefit to those wishing to relocate to Arranmore. Information will also be gathered and shared, on properties on the island both for sale or available for long term rent. We will also be engaging with individuals, organisations and groups off the island including public representatives and government departments with the view to making relocating to Arranmore as seamless and positive as possible. But most importantly of all, we will be engaging with all the people of Arranmore Island itself and look forward to working with you in the coming weeks and months.
